Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days
Virtual Learning Plans for Snow Days 2026 after the 3rd Closure
Good Afternoon, Halethorpe Elementary Families,
In preparation for the possibility of an extended closure due to the upcoming winter storm, students will be bringing learning packets home this afternoon. Please refer to the FAQ’s below for information on the expectations for virtual learning.
BCPS will start virtual learning after schools have been closed for 3 days due to inclement weather. This means that if schools are closed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday due to the forecasted storm, any school closure after that would be a virtual learning day.
Only students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will receive a school issued Chromebook and charger for home use. Chromebooks should be kept in student backpacks until needed and not used for anything other than schoolwork.
Yes, students in grades 3-5 can keep the school issued device in their backpack and use a home device (laptop, tablet, PC, phone) to log in to Google Meets or complete any assignments.
All students in PreK-2 will be receiving work packets in their take home folders. All students should submit the work packets when they return to school.
All 3rd-5th graders will also have paper work packets that they can complete independently. If they can log in, the teachers will be able to provide support and answer questions. If they can’t log on, they can work through the packet on their own. All students should submit their paper work packets when they return to school. Students must complete AT LEAST three activities on the choice board and parents should sign the completed page.
Attendance will be verified once schools reopen. Attendance is verified by the completion of the paper work packets sent home. These need to be submitted in order to be considered “present” for virtual learning.
Google Meet codes are listed below and on the reverse of the parent cover letter for grades 3-5. They can also be found on our school’s website. https://halethorpees.bcps.org/
Teachers will communicate additional work expectations with families via email, Talking Points, and/or Schoology. Students are always encouraged to practice reading, writing, and math facts on their own when time allows. Students can access Amira for reading practice in grades K-5 and Freckle for math practice in grades 3-5. Directions for accessing these programs can be found on our website and were sent out in an email to all families.
We have many people ready and available to support. Your child’s teacher will be able to answer most questions, but if you need additional support, please contact the main office at 443-809-1406 or email our office ([email protected] and [email protected]) . Someone will return your call or email as soon as possible. You can also find the email address for all staff members, including administration on our school website in the Staff Directory on our website: https://halethorpees.bcps.org/h_e_s_staff_directory
