Emergency Protocols

These procedures are very similar to what we have followed in the past, but BCPS is now transitioning to the “I Love You Guys” Standard Response Protocol (SRP) to respond to a variety of possible emergencies. You can learn more about this approach at https://iloveuguys.org/.

For your reference, I am also re-sharing handouts in English, Spanish, and Burmese that explain the SRP:

As part of our safety plan, we are required to hold the following drills throughout the school year. After each drill, we review what worked well and what may need to be improved:

  • 9 Fire Drills
  • 1 Emergency Evacuation Drill (500 ft)
  • 2 Severe Weather Drills
  • 3 Scenario Drills (including Hold/Secure, Lockdown, and Shelter)

In addition, schools are required to share information with families about safe firearm storage. You can find that here: Parent's Guide to Firearm Storage

Concerns about safety can be shared with any administrator, safe adult, or through the Safe Schools Maryland online page.

Thank you for your support in helping us keep our students and staff safe.
